The Defensive Driving Program is designed to go beyond California DMV minimum requirements by helping students develop advanced defensive driving habits, confidence, and real-world driving experience.
This structured 3-phase training system helps new drivers become safer, more aware, and more independent behind the wheel while preparing for long-term success on the road.
Students begin by building a strong foundation in safe vehicle operation and defensive driving fundamentals.
Our instructors assess each student’s learning style, driving experience, confidence level, and individual training needs.
Students develop proper steering control, speed control, braking techniques, lane positioning, and vehicle awareness through guided driving exercises and hands-on instruction.
Students are introduced to the OVS (Orderly Visual Search) system to improve awareness, scanning habits, reaction time, and hazard recognition.
This third session establishes safe driving practices while maneuvering through multiple lanes, including major turns, lane changes, merging and navigating through various unprotected and protected intersections and more.
Parents are encouraged to continue supervised practice to help reinforce safe habits and build confidence behind the wheel. California DMV requirements include a minimum of 50 hours of supervised driving practice.
This advanced session focuses on: Defensive driving strategies, Traffic awareness, Decision-making skills, Space management, Hazard anticipation, Heavy traffic navigation
Students also practice: DVC (Driving Vocal Commentary), Self Navigation (“Silent Driving”)
These exercises improve concentration, awareness, and independent decision-making.
Students gain real-world freeway experience including: Entering & exiting freeways, Merging, Lane transitions, Speed control, Space cushioning, Navigating heavy traffic, Freeway awareness & safety
The final phase helps students transition from supervised driving to becoming safe and independent drivers.
Students reinforce all previously learned skills including: Defensive driving habits, Scanning techniques, Self-navigation, Independent decision-making, Real-world driving confidence
Students complete a mock driving exam using the PCDA Safety Performance Evaluation System. Instructors also review: DMV testing criteria, Common driving test mistakes, Local test routes, Tricky intersections, Zone regulations
This final preparation helps students feel confident and ready for the DMV driving test.

George is a great driving coach! I had tried five times before for my license and failed and after having a few lessons with George I passed on my 1st try! He is very supportive!! He has a fun personality and is very knowledgeable about the drive test!
After having trained and prepared our older son for his drive test, we called and used George again for our daughter Izzy! His ability to assess the specific needs of each of my kids is amazing! They both now have their drivers license thanks to his patience and caring nature. Five Stars all the way *****
I went with this driving school mainly because the price was good, the ratings were excellent, and they provide free student pickup and drop off. I had George as my instructor and after a few lessons out on the road, I already had my license. I would highly recommend this driving school and having George as an instructor, very patient, informative and he definitely helped make the learning experience worth while. 5/5
